Evermore : The Immortals

It is no secret to readers of this blog that I have been all about the supernatural YA books lately. At this point they are starting to all seem quite similar. Outcast girl, meets strange, dark and brooding supernatural boy, usually in a high school classroom. Then, well the rest is history. Despite the redundancies, I simply love the stories!

I am not going to lie and say that this book is SO different from others of its kind, because honestly its pretty much in the same vein. With that being said, I enjoyed every moment of this book! If you are into the Twilight series, the House of Night series, and maybe even the Sookie Stackhouse series, then you will most likely enjoy this book.

I like the idea of immortals, and this book shows us a world of immortals that is anything but what you might expect.

Ever and her entire family died in a freak car accident. Only she wandered off into a pretty field while the rest of her family wandered into the afterlife. She winds up coming back to life, but is forever changed. She has somehow become psychic, able to foresee what will happen, know what people are thinking, and she can see everyones auras all the time.

Over time she has developed defense mechanisms to fight the noise she can't escape, but when a mysterious boy with no aura touches her, everything falls silent, and she gets a case of the warm fuzzies!

There is a lot of action and suspense in this book. There is also an excellent amount of mystery, that kept me reading until the wee hours of the morning to find out what happens. Worth picking up.

The next book in the series is titled Blue Moon, and the latestet is titled Summerland, due out in late October.

In the book Ever has the innate ability to see auras. On Alyson Noel's website she lists how to read auras, as well as what the colors mean.

AURAS
The aura is the colorful electromagnetic field that surrounds all living things. With some practice, you can see an aura too!
Here's how:
  • Turn the lights low but not off. You want the room dim with just enough light so that you can still see in front of you.
  • If you're with another person, have them stand before a white background, if not, hold your hands before a white background.
  • Relax. Seriously, relax! Your gaze needs to be soft in order for this to work. So while you want to maintain your gaze, you don't want to give a hard stare.
  • If you're with a friend, focus on the area just around them (with a soft gaze). After a few seconds you should be able to see a white glow around them if not color. This is the aura—you did it!
  • If you're alone, bring your index fingers together until they just barely touch, then gaze softly at the space between them. You can move your fingers back and forth if you want (but don't touch) until you notice the glow just between them.
  • If you saw a white glowing light—congrats! If you saw color—wow! If you didn't see anything, don't worry, keep trying—you'll get it eventually!
