Another tear jerker from Nicholas Sparks.
Angry seventeen year old Roni hasn't seen or talked to her dad in three years. Not since he walked out on their family and New York and headed down to North Carolina. Now her mom is insisting she and her brother go visit their dad for the summer. Of course her brother is excited, but she wishes she was eighteen so she could do what she wants to do. Which is definitely not leaving New York for the south. But she has no choice, so she goes with her attitude intact. She has no desire to be around her dad and lets him know it when she does make it home. By the end of the first day, she's met Blaze, a goth girl who may make the summer bearable but only if her boyfriend Marcus isn't around. And she's also met a boy she immediately misjudges, but who seems to want to get to know her despite her attitude. Soon, she seems to be enjoying herself and has even let down her guard a little when something happens that could cause serious harm to her future. She wants to leave but the action has hindered her ability to go anywhere. As she gets to know Will, the boy from her first day in town, and her dad again, Roni starts letting her walls down and finds herself enjoying spending time with both of them, and there is no anger towards her dad.
I really want to swear off Nicholas Sparks because there's pretty much a guarantee that you'll be crying. This one was of course no exception. Despite this, I can't help loving his books. This was an audiobook from Hachette, and it was my first audiobook. Holly loves them but I've always been a bit hesitant. I loved it! I loaded it onto my ipod and listened to it through work yesterday. Luckily I didn't hit the teary parts until today.
Sidenote: Miley Cyrus is playing Roni in the movie adaptation and I am so mad about this. Brash and loud (I'm just talking about the voice here) is NOT how I imagined Roni.
