From start to finish this book was an emotional roller coaster! Abbie has lost her best friend in an accident, and struggles to define herself once her whole world is turned upside down. Having always been a set, once separated Abbie has to forge ahead without her other half. Reading about the pain and suffering of this tragedy was difficult, but the supernatural sub-plot kept the book from being a total downer. Overall I think that this book was very well written. The emotional struggle stands out to me more than the supernatural aspects of the book which almost made me feel as though I was reading two separate stories.
Abbie meets a strange boy named Caspian at her best friends funeral. She is instantly attracted to him, although is unsure why. They continue to meet from time to time, and Abbie is falling hard for this mysterious boy. The problem is that he runs hot and cold all the time, and she feels guilty for being happy with a boyfriend in the wake of her best friends death. As the mysteries unfold surrounding her friends death, and her boyfriend Caspian, Abbie has no idea what is real, or what to believe of anything.
One thing that drives me crazy is when an author waits until the last 10-20 pages to answer the books most burning questions. Its like climbing a mountain, getting to the top, and then falling off a cliff. I strongly believe that this book would have benefited from an ending not quite so abrupt. I finished reading, this book I had loved and was sitting there thinking "so thats it huh". I'm not sure if I will read the continuation of Abbey and Caspian's story. On one hand I would like a few more answers, while on the other hand I would like to think of this book purely as a story of a girl finding her way in the world after suffering a tremendous loss.
