At Holly's prodding, I'm reviewing Twilight. Two years late but here it is. She's been a hardcore fan of Twilight, and vamp fiction in general for quite some time. I thumbed my nose at her fandom, and am moderately mortified for my insistence that I would not succumb, since I have indeed succumbed. I guess my point here is that Holly is usually right about genres foreign to me. I still consider myself the aficionado of general fiction and chick lit between the two of us, and I don't think she'd mind that.
Since I'm the last to jump on this particular train, I'll just post the book synopsis from the publisher:
Bella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Bella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Bella, the person Edward holds most dear.
Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.
I can definitely see the draw of the books. As dauntingly long as they are, they're a quick read. Fun and fast. Unfortunately, I don't really feel a connection at all to the narrator. Bella is actually surprisingly unlikeable and moody to me. However, for some unknown reason I do still like her. Alice is much more fun and I think it would be an interesting read from her perspective and much more cheerily told. Does anyone else have an aversion to Bella or other characters?
