Book resolutions for 2010.

So we all have New Years Resolutions. This time I tried to keep mine mainly tailored to my book habits. Namely cutting down my tbr pile before adding more. And finding more bookspace! I didn't win any of the awesome bookshelves last year, but I did find one at Target for 16 bucks! I put it together myself yesterday and my review pile will now be readily accessible in the bedroom. Ideally I'd like to get a couple more tall bookshelves that don't need to be aesthetically pleasing as they will go in my ginormous closet and my rotated books will find a home there. I should have made a promise to donate books but I just can't part with them.
BordersExpress taunted my first resolution by having their going out of business sale where everything is 65% off. I bought the new Julie Buxbaum and the latest Rowan Coleman. I can't help it!
Any way my resolutions are as follows:

  • Spend no more than three days on a book (technically, I have spent a week on Supreme Courtship but I wanted to savor every morsel)
  • Read 167 books this year
  • Cut down by tbr pile by ten before purchasing a new book (broken within a week I know.)
  • Post at least three reviews a week (I can promise that there will be none during Mardi Gras from me)
  • Organize the bookspace in the closet, make pretty and deserving of my books
  • Update my Shelfari immediately, consider Holly's strong suggestion of joining GoodReads
  • Read at least one book from a genre that deviates from my normal standards a month.
So not too many, but enough that I feel like I actually need to stay on top of it. Anyone else have book goals this year? I know J. Kaye went back to basics with her blog this year and I look forward to reading about the books she chose for herself rather than galleys from publishers.

Wow thats a lot of books, parting with books is hard I agree, but the ones I don't really enjoy are easy to give away in my opinion.

I'm going to try not to buy anymore until I read at least 5 of my owned TBR, this doesn't include Kindle downloads though :-0 hahaha

My biggest one is to find some kind of balance between the books that I receive to review and the ones that I just want to read. I have books on the bookshelves here that have been sitting neglected since I purchased them plus I have a whole list of stuff I want to get from the library. I had my review pile close to gone and then somehow I went and requested a bunch more stuff!

I am giving away some books on my blog this year because we need the space and they are ones that I enjoyed but won't re-read. I have donated to the library in the past but a lot of these are ARCs that they can't sell at the Friends booksale.

I had to laugh when I saw the picture. I need to cut back on my spending. Sometime in Nov, I went book crazy...and I've been purchasing a few books each month. Believe it or not, I have been using some control or I'd have ordered even more.

I see now that whether it comes from purchases, the library, or for review, I'm excessive. I always get more than I can possibly read. :(

I like your cut down 10 on your TBR pile before purchasing more. I need to do that.
