Rattled!

Christine Coppa has been with her boyfriend, A, for a few months and is debating whether or not she wants to break up with him when she finds out that she's pregnant. A is on board initially. Ironically, A had posed a similar scenario to her in the beginning weeks of their relationship, citing a friend of his as an example. All is well, they don't know the status of "them", but they do know they're having a baby and are inextricably tied together now. Until A calls her one morning and says it's over. All of it. He's not ready to be a father and so just like that, he's not. Soon, he's packing up his life in New York City and heading back home to Indiana. And so that's it. With one decision not of her own volition, she's a single mom going it alone. Except, really, she's got a wider support system than most. Her Nanny, her parents, her overprotective big brother and one younger brother eager to calm and relax her whenever necessary, not to mention glamorous, good friends too numerouts to count ensure that Christine does her best to look forward to the beauty of her impending arrival, Jack Domenic, not dread the lesser details and what ifs that go hand in hand with being a single mom.

A memoir that's relatable and inviting, Rattled was a page turner from the start for me. Christine doesn't avoid talking about her fears for her son, or the fear of being alone but neither does she wallow in self pity. Rather she discusses this in a pragmatic, yet light voice with the majority emphasis being on her joy of her son. She is grateful for the love of her friends and ecstatic about her impending arrival. All of this makes Rattled! an enjoyable feel good read. Christine shows that you can be the fashionable, magazine editior, even when you have to head back to New Jersey to give your son the space he deserves. Fans of Risa Green's Notes from the Underbelly will love this memoir. Want more Christine? Check out her blog Storked on Glamour, and see adorable pictures of her gorgeous baby boy!
