Pepper Cartwright likes her job just fine as a TV judge. She's easy on the eyes, witty, and the people love her. Her husband Barry, the producer of the show, adores her...as long as she's the judge on the highest rated show in his arsenal and on daytime tv. So when the President of the United States sees her and decides she will be his nomination for the open slot on the Supreme Court after Senator Dexter Mitchell's shenanigans with his last two nominations, this potential new career is a thorn in both Pepper and Barry's side. But what can Pepper do? The President has nominated her and it's her civic duty to accept the nom, right? Not if Barry can help it. Senator Mitchell will see to it that everything in his power is done to ensure that Pepper will never take seat. The rest of the Supreme Justices aren't too crazy about it either.
I loved this book! I limited myself to three to four chapters a day because I did not want it to end. There was not a dull moment, every chapter was immersed in hilarity. The dry wit to this potentially dull subject (the Supreme Court? It doesn't glue me to the seat) at times had me laughing inappropriately loudly. I'm a huge fan of Thank You for Smoking and after this, I may have to add several more Christopher Buckley's to my bookshelf.
Thanks to Hachette for my copy! Have any of the winners read it? Did you enjoy it?
