Sundays at Tiffany's

The synopsis:
AN IMAGINARY FRIEND
Jane Margaux is a lonely girl. Her mother, a powerful Broadway producer, makes time for her only once a week, for their Sunday trip to admire jewelry at Tiffany's. Jane has only one friend: a handsome, comforting, funny man named Michael. He's perfect. But only she can see him. Michael can't saty forever, though. On Jane's ninth birthday he leaves, promising her that she'll forget him soon.
AN UNEXPECTED LOVE
Years later, in her thirties, Jane is just as alone as she was as a child. And despite her own success as a playright, she is even more trapped by her overbearing mother. Then she meets a man, a handsome, comforting, funny man. He's perfect—

My thoughts: I've had this book for two years and it's sat collecting dust. The cover and title grabbed me completely in the store, but I was hesitant to read a romance novel by James Patterson, the king of the suspense novel. I really did not want to be disappointed in this book. But my friend read Suzanne's Diary to Nicholas, and his diary back (yes, I know I'm a dork) and raved about them, so I grabbed this on the way out the door this morning. And I'm so glad I did. A really fresh storyline with a somewhat retro vibe to it, I wouldn't have guessed it was set in present day without some of the rather contrived dialogue that felt out of place (the only weakness in this book for me). The ending had me reaching for the tissues, before making me second guess the need for them. Altogether, a great summer beach read.
