The Iron Daughter

About the book
Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron Fey, iron-bound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her. Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's alone in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

My Take
I randomly picked The Iron King to read, based on the gorgeous cover art. I had no idea what the book was about and thus went into it with zero expectations. After reading that book, the first in the series, I was a big fan of the iron fey story and I could not wait to get my hands on the next installment! Lucky for me Julie Kagawa releases an ebook novella about a month after I read The Iron King, titled Winter's Passage. This ebook is a free download and it follows Meghan and Ash on their journey to meet with the winter queen Mab. I wasn't sure how necessary the book would be for me to read before I settled in with The Iron Daughter, and it wasn't necessary, but really awesome nonetheless. Background aside, lets get to the book at hand.

The Iron Daughter met my expectations completely. I find Julie Kagawas series to be unpredictable and exciting from start to finish! She has a knack for pacing and that will keep a reader from ever wanting to put down one of her books. She describes the fey creatures in a way that makes them very easy to imagine. Her creativity knows no bounds and I shake my head sometimes wondering how she comes up with this stuff, its truly amazing. Hands down, one of my favorite fantasy series that I have ever read. I have high expectations for The Iron Queen, the final book in the series.
