Stephanie Meyer Update: New Book + The Host

I have 2 big tidbits of news for all you Stephanie Meyer fans out there.

MTV has posted all about the latest "Twilight" novella from Stephanie Meyer!
Oh my Edward. Stephenie Meyer has announced she is publishing a new book called "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner," due in bookstores June 5 and available for free at BreeTanner.com from June 7 to July 5. The novella will act as something of a companion piece for the "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" film. But it begs the question: Who exactly is Bree Tanner?

It seems a bit surprising that Meyer would choose to write a novella about a character who shows up for such a short period of time in the novels. Don't worry about hauling out your copy of "Eclipse" to find the surprisingly few pages Tanner appears on, because we did all the dirty work for you. Here is a cheat sheet telling you everything you need to know about the short-lived Bree Tanner.

An "Eclipse" Exclusive:
If you've only been watching the "Twilight" movies or read the first two books, don't be shocked that you have no idea who Bree Tanner is. In fact, don't be upset if you read "Eclipse" and still have no idea who she is. Tanner is a character introduced a startlingly short amount of time before she dies in "Eclipse" and could be considered (to everyone except Stephenie Meyer) to be a throwaway character.

A Short Life:
Tanner is only introduced 10 pages before she is killed off in Victoria's war against the Cullens and the Quileute werewolf tribe. However, of all the newborn vampires discussed in "Eclipse," Tanner was one of the few to be named and introduced to the readers. Unfortunately, it didn't take very long after she was turned into a vampire for her to meet her end ... again.

Dramatic Death Scene:
It turns out Tanner isn't the best newborn vampire among them all, and she isn't a big fan of killing innocents and drinking their blood. She tries to join forces with the Cullen clan and adapt to their "vegetarian vampire" lifestyle, but ends up being killed by Felix on the orders of Jane, a member of the Volturi guard (played by Dakota Fanning in the film), in the final battle.

Newborn Vampires:
A big part of the story in "Eclipse" surrounds the bad-girl vampire Victoria creating an army of newborn vampires in the Seattle area so she can wage war on Edward Cullen, who killed her beau James way back in "Twilight." When a vampire is first created, it is at its strongest, so Victoria went around recklessly creating vampires so she could have an extremely powerful army behind her. Tanner was just one of the fatalities.

Seattle:
The trouble with the first-person perspective of "The Twilight Saga" is that the reader can't read what is happening firsthand beyond what Bella Swan sees with her own eyes. Much like "Midnight Sun" gave (some) of the details behind what happened elsewhere in "Twilight," "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner" will show what happened in Seattle with Victoria during "Eclipse." But since much of "Eclipse" is devoted to the characters wondering what exactly was going on in Seattle, seeing it through the eyes of a secondary character like Tanner is a smart companion piece to the book.

Unseen First Life:
Unfortunately for Tanner, the world will never know what happened to her before she became a vampire. She was introduced into "Eclipse" after she was a newborn and "The Short Second Life" will start off the same way. There is a chance of flashbacks telling about her life before becoming a vampire, but the way Meyer described the novella on her Web site made it seem as though Tanner was the narrator solely so the reader could see what went on in Seattle, not to learn her past.

In The Movies:
"Eclipse" director David Slade at least had more of a heads-up than fans and retailers did about "The Short Second Life," and he cast 14-year-old Jodelle Ferland in the role. Slade and Ferland, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard (Victoria) and Xavier Samuel (Riley), were given advance copies of the book to read so they could have a complete knowledge of what went on in Seattle for the film.

I also have an update on the status of "The Host" film adaptation from MTV.
With the film installments of her "Twilight" novels not yet fully completed, Stephenie Meyer is already well into the development of her next film franchise. According to Deadline.com, the adaptation of the author's first adult novel, "The Host," could go before cameras as early as next year.

Published in 2008, the book involves benevolent yet parasitic aliens who have taken over the minds of almost all the humans on Earth. Upon its release, Meyer described the plot to MTV News as " 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers,' if the aliens had won."

Although financing is not yet in place and no definite shooting schedule is planned for the sci-fi/horror hybrid, producer Steve Schwartz divulged that "Truman Show" Oscar-nominee Andrew Niccol is currently working on his third draft of the screenplay, with the author's close involvement. Niccol is also signed on to direct the film.

Schwartz, who is now budgeting the project with co-producers Paula Mae Schwartz and Nick Wechsler, again noted that Meyer handpicked the filmmaker because Niccol's directorial debut, "Gattaca," is one of her favorite science-fiction films. However, his hire was not immediate.

"We spent time with Andrew," Schwartz explained. "Listened to his vision, introduced Andrew to Stephenie and she responded. There is very good chemistry in this group. Stephenie is a very smart collaborator, and she had an intuitive strong hunch he would be the right guy. Based on the script we've seen, we think she was right."

Fans will have to wait and see if Meyer is also right about her dream cast for the film, which she told MTV News in 2008 includes Robert Redford, Matt Damon and both Ben and Casey Affleck. Another uncertainty is when — or if — Meyer will ever finish her two planned sequels to "The Host."

Regardless of whether or not the adaptation spawns further novels or movies, a 2011 shoot could put "The Host" in theaters before the "Twilight Saga" ends, depending on when the second part to the two-film adaptation of "Breaking Dawn" is released.

Plus, with Meyer's announcement of the "Eclipse" spin-off novella "The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner," there's now a tease that Summit Entertainment could extend the hot vampire film series even further than a fifth installment.

The Last Song- The Movie

The Last Song comes to theaters today and is sure to be a box office smash. After all, most anything Miley Cyrus or Nicholas Sparks touches turns to gold, so a combo of the two should be a big hit.

The trailer has me so excited for this movie, it looks great! I can tell that it will be funny and engaging and I plan to see it today!

The Synopsis
Seventeen-year-old Veronica 'Ronnie' Miller's life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from New York City to Tybee Island, Georgia. Three years later, she remains angry and alienated from her parents, especially her father ...until her mother decides it would be in everyone's best interest if she spent the summer on Tybee Island with him. Ronnie's father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms - first love, the love between parents and children - that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts ...and heal them.

And just when Frankie thinks the plot couldn’t get more complicated, a jewel thief starts copying the show’s storyline-a development that could send the show’s ratings soaring, if it doesn’t get Frankie arrested first…

In her signature blending of the hilarious with the poignant, Libby Malin’s latest light-hearted novel combines the best of life and of fiction into an entertaining and incredibly satisfying read.

My thoughts: I adore the cover of this book. Fresh and fun. The beginning of the book starts the same way. With Frankie talking to her mom via cell phone discussing upcoming plots and twists that cause so many raised eyebrows that a police dog is called in to sniff Frankie's purse and laptop bag for a bomb, drugs or anything else that might get her off the streets. It was funny, and I was looking forward to a couple more hours of laughs. I got an enjoyable read that I couldn't connect with. The dialogue felt a bit contrived to me, switching from young to a decidedly older vibe from the main character, but that's the only issue I had with the story. It was a breezy read with a happy ending and you can't ask for more than that.

On a snow day, her family decides to go for a drive, and in one moment, her dad loses control of the car and everything changes. Suddenly, she's outside of the car and she sees that her mom and dad didn't make it, and she runs over to her little brother Teddy, when she realizes it's not him, it's Mia. Now she's in the hospital watching the rest of her family, friends, and boyfriend beg her to stay. Knowing that her life is irreversibly changed, that she'll never go back to the life that she led, because it's gone, Mia must decide to stay with the family she has left or try to find the family that's gone.

What a heartbreaking, moving story. Honestly? I can see why Holly loves young adult now, and I'm kicking myself for not reading them sooner. The last few books I've read have been young adult and they're amazingly evocative and deal with some very very hard hitting issues and pack a wollop of a punch in them. This book is one that will stand out and stay with me for quite a while to come.

Series Spotlight - L.A. Candy

The first book in the series L.A. Candy.
Los Angeles is all about the sweet life: hot clubs, cute guys, designer . . . everything. Nineteen-year-old Jane Roberts can't wait to start living it up. She may be in L.A. for an internship, but Jane plans to play as hard as she works, and has enlisted her BFF Scarlett to join in the fun.

When Jane and Scarlett are approached by a producer who wants them to be on his new series, a "reality version of Sex and the City," they can hardly believe their luck. Their own show? Yes, please!

Soon Jane is TV's hottest star. Fame brings more than she ever imagined possible for a girl from Santa Barbara—free designer clothes, the choicest tables at the most exclusive clubs, invites to Hollywood premieres—and she's lapping up the VIP treatment with her eclectic entourage of new pals. But those same friends who are always up for a wild night are also out for a piece of Jane's spotlight.

In a city filled with people chasing after their dreams, it's not long before Jane wakes up to the reality that everyone wants something from her, and nothing is what it seems to be.

L.A. Candy is a deliciously entertaining novel about what it's like to come of age in Hollywood while starring in a reality TV show, written by a girl who has experienced it all firsthand: Lauren Conrad.

The Second in the series Sweet Little Lies.
How Sweet it is?

Jane Roberts was the average girl next door until she and her best friend, Scarlett Harp, landed their own reality show, L.A. Candy. Now the girls have an all-access pass to Hollywood's hottest everything. But there's more to life on camera than just parties and shopping. . . .

When racy photos of Jane are leaked to the press, she finds herself at the center of a tabloid scandal. She turns to her co-star Madison Parker for help, unaware that Madison is scheming behind the scenes. She might be Jane's shoulder to cry on, but does Madison really have Jane's back?

Scarlett's working on a scandal of her own. She's fallen for someone who's strictly off-limits—which means Scarlett has a big secret to keep . . . from the L.A. Candy cameras, the paparazzi staking out her apartment, even from her best friend.

Of course, nothing stays secret for long for the stars of the newest hit TV series, and all this drama couldn't be better for ratings. But can Jane survive another season in the spotlight?

In television star Lauren Conrad's dishy, entertaining novel about young Hollywood, the lies are only as sweet as the people tell-ing them.

Series Spotlight - Twilight

Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1)
I read this book because everytime I walked into a bookstore it was in my face. You couldn't go anywhere without running into a towering display of Twilight books. I picked up my copy about a month before the Twilight movie came out. Ashley only recently picked up Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1), she enjoyed it and quickly moved on to the next in the series. The book blurb reads:

About three things I was absolutely positive:
First, Edward was a vampire.
Second, there was a part of him–and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be–that thirsted for my blood.
And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
Isabella Swan's move to Forks, a small, perpetually rainy town in Washington, could have been the most boring move she ever made. But once she meets the mysterious and alluring Edward Cullen, Isabella's life takes a thrilling and terrifying turn. Up until now, Edward has managed to keep his vampire identity a secret in the small community he lives in, but now nobody is safe, especially Isabella, the person Edward holds most dear. The lovers find themselves balanced precariously on the point of a knife -- between desire and danger.
Deeply romantic and extraordinarily suspenseful, Twilight captures the struggle between defying our instincts and satisfying our desires. This is a love story with bite.

New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2)
Ashley jumped right into New Moon (The Twilight Saga, Book 2) after finishing Twilight. I can't blame her, I tore through the entire series in about 2 weeks. This was not my favorite in the series, actually it was my least favorite! That being said, it is a must read to fully understand the series. Those of you out there that are Team Jacob will love this novel! The book blurb reads:

I FELT LIKE I WAS TRAPPED IN ONE OF THOSE TERRIFYING NIGHTMARES…
For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is even more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of one evil vampire, but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realize their troubles may be just beginning. . . .
Legions of readers entranced by the New York Times bestseller Twilight are hungry for the continuing story of star-crossed lovers Bella and Edward. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural spin. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

Check out Ashley's detailed review here.

Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3)
Things really heat up in Eclipse (The Twilight Saga, Book 3)! I was on the edge of my seat, flipping pages like a madwoman to find out what was going to happen! This book was the book that hooked me on the series. After Eclipse, I knew I would be a Twi-hard for life! The book blurb reads:

Edward’s soft voice came from behind me.

I turned to see him spring lightly up the porch steps, his hair windblown from running. He pulled me into his arms at once, just like he had in the parking lot, and kissed me again. This kiss frightened me. There was too much tension, too strong an edge to the way his lips crushed mine–like he was afraid we had only so much time left to us.

As Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob–knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death. But which is which?

Check out the detailed review here.

Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)
The finale to the series had fans split. Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4) drew a line in the sand! Some fans were furious at the ending, while others were happy with the way things worked out. I was on the happy side of the fence, what side will you land on? The book blurb reads:

When you loved the one who was killing you, it left you no options. how could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved?
To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. Her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which two tribes hangs.
Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life - first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse - seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed... forever?

Perfect on Paper

The Book
Waverly Bryson is a late-20s successful businesswoman who almost has it all: dream job in Sports PR, two best friends, and a bar where everybody knows her name. What she doesn't have is a ring on her finger, and after being left at the altar, she's in no hurry. Besides, she has plenty of other issues to tackle, including her wayward father, a new rival at work, and an ever-shrinking amount of personal time. To keep sane, Waverly makes a habit of jotting down "Honey Notes," her own brand of self-deprecating wisdom and pipe-dream for a line of greeting cards.
As Waverly stumbles back into the dating scene (no stalkers or jean shorts, please), her personal and professional lives threaten to collide. Perfect on Paper reminds readers that everyone has a bad date (or twelve), and that everyone needs a best friend to tell them, “Honey, you are not alone."

The Review
Books like this make me glad that I am not dating! The book is hilarious, with a lot of misadventures. Waverly is a really likable and relatable character which will pull you into the story and will have you rooting for her. This book is a classic, "when it rains it pours" novel. Nothing is going right for Waverly and she is desperately trying to find her way back to the road she knows.

I really loved the greeting cards that were featured in the book. They were so great and funny! I wish I could buy them to give to people.

The realtionships that Waverly has with friends and family are interesting and real, it lends a sense of authenticity to the book that I really love.

Overall this is a great chick lit book that I would recommend to anyone!

The Author
Maria Murnane is currently an independent marketing writer, residing in New York City. She spent several years in San Francisco as an agent in sports PR, before quitting her job to pursue her passions in life: writing and soccer. What the stars are writing - Jennifer Love Hewitt

Jennifer Love Hewitt has a new book out, The Day I Shot Cupid: Hello, My Name Is Jennifer Love Hewitt and I'm a Love-aholic, and NPR writer Linda Holmes has compiled a list of the highlights of the book.

1. On page two of the introduction, the word "TRUTH" (in all caps, thusly) is followed by 23 exclamation points. On page three of the introduction, the word "love" is followed by five question marks. Two sentences later, the word "CUPID" is followed by two exclamation points. Three pages into the book — pages of the introduction, which comes after the preface — you're already basically reading the late stages of an Internet message-board meltdown.

2. On her own press: "I cannot even tell you how many times I've been reading an article, happy with what they have written, focusing on all the right things, and then, like the clap, it appears: serial dater." It seems to me that there is a very unfortunate and obviously unintentional parallel being drawn here between what causes one thing to "appear" and what causes another thing to "appear."

3. "Guys hate to spoon — they prefer to fork, lol!"

4. "This is embarrassing and personal, but once a month, since I was twelve years old, I go to my favorite jewelry store and try on my dream ring." She is 31 years old. If this is true, she has made roughly 225 trips to the jewelry store to try on engagement rings. I do not know where to go with this.

5. From the list of 20 Things To Do After A Breakup: "Make out with a stranger (he must be gorgeous or you'll feel worse)."

6. From the list of 10 Things To Do Before A Date: "Spray tan is a must."

7. From the list of Strikes, where if a guy has three, you forget it: "He keeps saying 'That's so dumb' when you're talking." Oh … Jennifer Love Hewitt. I'm so sorry that possibly might have happened to you once or twice or I'm assuming you might not have brought it up.

8. "Remember, your body is a temple, not a 7-Eleven."

9. From the list of What A Man Should Know: How to pick a diamond, and To always have a coat for you. A coat for you? Always? He should always have a coat for you? And pick out diamonds? I am beginning to think that Jennifer Love Hewitt and I do not share exactly the same priorities vis-a-vis romantic situations and also who is in charge of choosing and transporting our clothing.

10. I really don't want to go into detail about the last one. I will just point you to a video where she explains it. Because … apparently everyone had already heard about this except for me, so I was the only one completely weirded out by it. It is … NSFWPOFR (Not Safe For Watching Party Of Five Reruns), to say the least.

Giada at Home

The Review
Giada has always been good about striking a balance between interesting dishes that impress and with realistic kitchen skills of the average cook. Her dishes are easy enough for a beginner to pull off and interesting enough to impress friends and family. Everytime I buy one of Giadas cookbooks I end up cooking and trying something totally new that I have never tried before. I have yet to be unable to cook a dish correctly and I have always enjoyed her recipes.

Giada at home focuses on family and recipes she loves for family meals. It has great pictures of her with her family, and the dishes are photographed with wonderful detail.

The sections included, along with some top picks are:
Appetizers- Stuffed Baby Peppers, Beef Skewers with cherry tomatoes and parsley sauce, bruchettas and crostinis.

Soups and Sandwiches- Zucchini and Olive pizza, Chicken Burgers with Garlic-Rosemary Mayonnaise, Mini Italian Pub burgers and Lemon Chicken Soup with Spaghetti.

Pasta and Grains- Gorgonzola and Porcini Mushroom Risotto, Fusilli with Spicy Pesto, Cheesy Baked Faro and Brown Butter Risotto with Lobster.

Meat, Poultry and Fish- Honey Balsamic Lamb Chops, Grilled Salmon with Citrus Salsa Verde, Grilled Tuscan Steak with Fried Egg and Goat Cheese and Chicken Milanese with Tomato and Fennel Sauce.

Vegetables and Salads- Grilled Asparagus and Melon Salad, Vegetable Parmesan, Roasted Tomatoes with Garlic, Gorgonzola and Herbs, and Skewered Greek Salad.

Desserts- Espresso Caramel Bars, Lemon Hazelnut Tiramisu, Pomegranate and Mint Sorbet and Chocolate Honey Almond Tart.

Brunch- Ginger Tea Lemonade with Basil, Citrus Salad, Egg White Frittata with Lox and Arugula, and Crispy Parmesan Biscuits.

Those are just a few of the recipes featured in each section.

This is an excellent recipe book that you will find yourself pulling out on a weekly basis.

The Book
Since her debut on Food Network in 2002 with the hit program Everyday Italian, Giada De Laurentiis has been enticing Americans with her updated twists on Italian favorites. Her dedication to ease, healthfulness, and—above all else—flavor have won her a permanent place in the hearts of home cooks. In Giada at Home, she shares a personal look into how she cooks for those dearest to her, with simple recipes inspired by her television show of the same name.

Born in Italy, Giada was raised in Los Angeles by a gregarious Italian family. While her grandmother, aunt, and mother brought her up on generations-old recipes, Giada also became enamored with the bright and clean flavors of California’s abundant seasonal fruits and vegetables. Giada at Home presents recipes from both traditions, all with Giada’s signature style. She shares classic Italian recipes passed down through the years, like cheese-stuffed dates wrapped in salty prosciutto, creamy risotto with the earthy and deep flavors of mushrooms and gorgonzola, and lamb chops basted with honey and balsamic vinegar. New family favorites include grilled asparagus and melon, game hens roasted with citrus and herbs, and a sorbet made with pomegranate and mint, all bursting with fresh, vibrant flavors.

No meal would be complete without the company of family and Giada particularly enjoys bringing her loved ones together over meals. For the first time, she incorporates her go-to brunch recipes—what she cooks when setting up a feast on her back patio for everyone on weekend mornings—from Jade-approved Panini, with gooey mozzarella, luscious raspberries, and a sprinkling of brown sugar, to Todd’s favorite pancetta-studded waffles scented with cinnamon.

No matter which recipe you choose—classic or contemporary—Giada at Home makes gathering the favorite people in your life for fabulous weeknight meals and family celebrations delicious and easy.

VIP Lounge

This was a fun book to read. Everyone loves a little Hollywood drama every now and again, and if you love celebrity gossip, you will have a good time with this book.

The second in the Chloe Gamble series has our lead actress really becoming a star. She will stop at nothing to get what she wants, but finds that the people who are supposed to have her back all have agenda's of their own.

The story is told from multiple perspectives giving a nice look into all the characters motives. It really breaks up the story in a good way and keeps it moving along at a nice pace. Its interesting to see how it all comes together.

An interesting, yet predictable story about life in the Hollywood spotlight as a hot young new actress. If you liked Secrets of my Hollywood Life, Secrets of my Hollywood Life: On Location, or Hollywood is like High School with Money then you will enjoy this book.

Star Reads- Kelly Cutrone

Kelly Cutrone has a reputation for being cutthroat. She runs Peoples Revolution which was one of Lauren Conrad and Stephanie Pratts first fashion gigs on the hit show The Hills. Cutrone now has her own show Kell on Earth which has been on Bravo for a few months already.

About the book

Kelly Cutrone has long been mentoring women on how to make it in one of the most competitive industries in the world. She has kicked people out of fashion shows, forced some of reality television's shiny stars to fire their friends, and built her own company—one of the most powerful PR firms in the fashion business—from the ground up. Through it all, she has refused to be anything but herself.

Kelly writes in her trademark, no-bullshit style, combining personal and professional stories to share her secrets for success without selling out. Let's face it: this is a different world than the one in which our mothers grew up, and Kelly has created a real girl's guide to making it in today's world. Offering a wake-up call to women everywhere, she challenges us to stop the dogged pursuit of the “perfect life” and discover who we are and what we really want. Then she shows us how to go out there and get it. Much of our culture teaches us to muzzle our inner voice and follow the crowd; Kelly enables us to stop pretending and start truly living.

With chapters on how to find your tribe (those like-minded souls who make your heart sing), how sometimes a breakdown is really a breakthrough, and how there is no such thing as perfection, Kelly also shares practical advice, such as how to create a personal brand and how sometimes you have to fake it to make it.

Raw, hilarious, shocking, but always the honest truth, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside calls upon you to gather up your courage like an armful of clothes at a McQueen sample sale and follow your soul wherever it takes you. Whether you're just starting out in the world or looking to reinvent yourself, If You Have to Cry, Go Outside will be the spark you need to figure out what you have to say to the world—and how you're going to say it.

I didn't buy myself any books this week since I was super busy at work last week and haven't been able to finish the one book I've been reading, so everything came from the publishers/Shelf Awareness and Book Blogs this week.

Emails from an A**hole

Mom Still Likes You Best
The Transformation of Bartholomew Fortuno

They all look so good, I can't wait to dive into them. I kind of can't wait to read Mom Still Likes You Best since, even at 26, I definitely have that feelings towards the sibs. I've wanted to keep part of my youth, what can I say?

Emails from an A**hole

I'll be the first to say my sense of humor is a little off. I've been going to www.dontevenreply.com for quite some time now, and I don't leave the site without several laughs. So I was thrilled to see it was coming out as a book (how awesome is the cover?) and thanks to Megan at Sterling, I was sent a copy. I devoured it in less than two hours. There are email exchanges printed on the website but with chapter intros and tidbits from John Lindsay (the author) after each chain.

The book is every bit as hilarious as the website, and comes in much prettier packaging. Go to Barnes and Noble to pre-order now. Perfect for Manly Reads and for car rides when you need a laugh.

Must Read: Looking for a Ride. That chapter is insane!

I know you’re all aching to know what’s going to happen in season three as we will all be left hanging with the cliffhangers in the season finale. If you’re wondering if Eric and Sookie will get together next season, here’s what Alan Ball had to say:
“I can’t tell you if they’re going to get together, because that’s going to ruin the anticipation. But, if you’ve been following season two, he’s definitely been doing things to make her more vulnerable and more susceptible to him. And he does want her, he’s just not sure why. I think it’s deeper than just, “I want her because Bill Compton has her.” Although that’s part of it, because Eric is a total alpha-dog.
He added that in season three, we’ll meet Russel Edgington – the Vampire King of Mississippi and encounter some werewolves. He’s also excited for the coming out of the new character, Debbie Pelt, which he commented as being “bad news”.

Alan explains that Debbie Pelt is the ex-girlfriend of a guy who’s helping Sookie find Bill. This is now going to make us all wonder who has Bill and why. Remember just because you read the books doesn’t mean it is going to be the same reasons. He described Debbie Pelt as “just hard ass, white trash bitch on wheels.”

On the other hand, Bon Temps‘ detective Andy Bellefleur will find out that he is related to somebody and it will totally shock him when he finds out who it is. As for Godric, he’s really dead but he may have flashback scenes together with Eric.

Furthermore, season three will be based on identity struggles for the characters.
“Everybody is struggling with identity in season three – What am I? Who am I? What is my life? Is it what I want it to be? How do I make it what I want it to be? What are my real values? And some people are like, “Am I human? I always thought I was, but maybe I was wrong.” In one particular case, its like, “Yes, honey, you were wrong.”
Alan provides a little bit more detail by stating that after the white-thing with Maryann, Sookie realizes that she is not 100 percent human but, as to what she is, she doesn’t know yet.

Another component that Alan is bringing into season 3 is the introduction of a vampire that is not at all protective as Bill is towards Sookie. The name is one that book readers will recognize and will lead many to wonder how this story line is going to play out – Franklin Mott.

Will we ever meet the book fan favorite Bubba in the show?
Michael Ausiello from EW.com says:
Unfortunately, Alan Ball says he couldn’t figure out a way to introduce Bubba “without it being cheesy,” adding, “I don’t know how to do it without either using an Elvis impersonator, which is cheesy, or having somebody and never seeing their face, just hearing their voice — and to me that sounds equally cheesy. So that’s just one of the casualties of the transfer from book to screen.”
Rumor has it that we will be seeing a lot more of Vampire Eric in season 3, his body that is. *Swoon* I literally cannot wait! I must say that I have disagreed with a lot of Alan Balls interpretations of the books so far. I have to work hard to keep the show separate in my mind otherwise I get upset at all the differences. The books will always hold my heart over the show.

True Blood Season 2 comes out on DVD on May 25th 2010. The cover art matches the promo posters.

Casting Call - One for the Money

As we already know Katherine Heigl is playing Stephanie Plum. Some hate that casting choice, and some are excited about. What we are all wondering though is who will play Ranger and Morelli? Lets cast this movie!
RANGER

I pick Edgar Ramirez for Ranger. He was in Domino with Kiera Knightly as a bounty hunter, and I always saw him as ranger from that point on. I know The Rock has been a popular choice, but I would HATE that!

Morelli
Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be totally dreamy as Morelli. It might even make me switch to team Morelli!

Lets hear it folks, who do you cast to play the leading men in Stephanies life?

UPDATE! Ranger and Morelli have been cast!

Heigl goes dark.. Stephanie Plum?

Everyone has an opinion about Heigl playing Stephanie Plum in the One for the Money movie. I plan to just see where it goes. I have wanted this movie for SO long that I don't want to ruin my experience by getting all bent out of shape over the casting decisions.

Heigl showed up at an event with much darker locks, making me wonder if this is prep for her role as Stephanie Plum. The color looks good on her and I cannot wait to see where this goes!

On the positive side, Heigl was funny in Knocked Up in embarrassing situations, which we all know Stephanie is in a lot of the time. I think she could take on the humor aspect of One for the Money well. She does indignant well, and I can't wait to see her sparring with Morelli, and trying to keep up with Ranger. I think the dark hair looks good on her, I really do. The book was written in the 90's, they will have to update the look for sure in the movie. If they give her a Jersey fro it would look ridiculous and people wouldn't be rushing to the box office. I think if they give her big curls, or even wavy hair would be more updated.

From Evanovich's website I give you the character profile for Stephanie Plum:
Name: Stephanie Plum
Height: 5'7"
Hair: Brown and curly
Eyes: Blue
Marital Status: Divorced
Favorite type of cake: Birthday
Favorite Movie: Ghostbusters
Favorite Candy bar: Snickers
Favorite Wii game: Raving Rabbids
Favorite Car: One that runs
What's worse, bad breath or bad B.O.: B.O.
Favorite X-man and favorite mutant villian: Wolverine and Magneto
Favorite frozen custard flavor: Orange and vanilla swirl
Morimoto or Bobby Flay: Bobby Flay (but maybe without so many jalapenos)
Who has the better pizza, Pino's, Dominic's or Tiny's: Pino's!
Cake, cupcake or brownie sundae: Yes
Cats, Dogs or Hamsters: Hamsters that think they're a dog

A lot of us have pictured the role for over a decade as being Sandra Bullock. Ten years ago it would have worked, but today its just not going to work! I am just glad that Reese Witherspoon is no longer planned to play the lead.

Tell me what you all think of the new look, and what you want from the book to be in the movie.

UPDATE! Ranger and Morelli have been cast!

Life As I Know It

Jessica is kind of coasting through her life. She's got a moderate ambition to become a solicitor but is content to remain a secretary to her solicitor ex for the time being. One day she's running to her car in the park with her dog Frankie to avoid the incoming storm when she runs into a stranger who sparks fly with immediately. Literally. Because as she's huddled with Dan to avoid the rain, she's struck by lightning. When she wakes up in the hospital, she's not Jessica but Lauren, unhappily married mother of four. She immediately tells the nurse that she's not Lauren, and the nurse looks at her as if she's lost her marbles. She modifies her story to Grant, Lauren's husband, telling him simply that she remembers nothing of their life together. When she goes to sleep as Lauren, she wakes up as Jessica and vice versa. Jessica wants her life back but soon realizes that the lightning killed Lauren, and the children need her. How will she give up the potential with Dan, who she's fallen for immediately, to take over the reins as Lauren? Surely she can't remain in two bodies forever.
I bought this book primarily for the cover. I've read several books with some similar plot line and they just drag for me. After about 50 pages, I got antsy and read the ending of the book to see if it had an ending that was worth reading the book. Don't get me wrong, there was nothing unenjoyable about the beginning of the book, I just found myself dragging my feet about reading it. As soon as I read the ending, I knew I had to read the book in it's entirety. Totally different than the other books I had clumped this with, it was an interesting, if a little too tidy, book with interesting plot twists. A nice car or plane ride book.

The making of a book cover- Blameless

Borders Ink released this video today about the making of Gail Carrigers latest book Blameless. Its a really neat video, for a highly anticipated (by me anyway) book! If you haven't read the first book in the series, Soulless, check out my review and you might be interested in reading the book. Here are the covers for the first two books in the series.

This One Is Mine

Violet Parry is an emotional wreck and she doesn't see a way out of it. Her husband, David, is at a loss as to what, exactly. in her life is so hard. She doesn't work, she's got unlimited funds, he's given into her whims and their one year old is taken care of by LadyGo, their nanny. Everything about this makes him angry and mean, which drives her further into her despair. David's sister Sally is 36, single and desperate to change that. She meets Jacob and immediately lures him in, before he gets famous, so he'll remember they fell in love before the fame soon to be bestowed upon him. One day, Violet is out driving around listlessly when she meets Teddy Reyes, a down and out bass player with Hep C and is a recovering junkie and sex addict. Given that, how could Violet do anything but fall in love with him?

Entertaining though this book certainly was, it didn't, I had a hard time finding the book engaging me. The main characters were hardly likable and my sympathies lay with Jeremy and Teddy. All in all, a fun, cynical (oxymoron?) quirky book with an ending filled with surprises.
